            For those who don't believe anyone can really communicate with the  other side - you may be right

 Your opinion on spirit communication depends largely on whether your thought processes tend towards the right  brained(imaginative/creative), or left brained (realistic, factual). The difference is demonstrated  on  2 TV shows.  "Ghost Whisperer" exemplifies the right-brained medium who sees, hears or talks to dead spirits; "The Medium" is the left-brained psychic  whose information comes via visionary dreams leaving it open to the possibility that her ability is connected to her own acute powers of observation. Both answers are right in whichever way it appeals to your own set of beliefs - and believing both at the same time is justifiable, as evidenced by this quote from a somewhat surprising source  -
 the famous physicist, Dr. Carl Sagan:

                "Probably a dozen times since their deaths I've heard my mother or father, in an ordinary, conversational tone of voice, call my name.  They had called my name often during my life with them. I still miss them so much that it doesn’t seem strange to me that my brain  occasionally will retrieve a kind of lucid recollection of their voices."

The concept of being able to communicate with spirits is a highly personal, faith based belief that gives a comforting sense of the continuum of life, but it is the most un-provable concept in the psychic practice.  
 
In my realm of "provable psychics" telepathy is plausible. The brain functions on measurable forms of energy which can be physically "seen" on MRI's  and other scientific devices.  Telepathic energy works like a radio - transmitter sends to receiver.  Therefore, the left-brained answer to where the information comes from is telepathy - the medium is the receiver, the subject is the transmitter... and the knowledge dwells in the memory of the departed spirits  -  which in itself is a continuation of a life's existence.

It doesn't matter whether you believe it to be spirit communication or telepathy, either belief will bring you to acknowledge that there is a continuum of existence - an understanding  that frees you live your life fully without fear.
